SEO for businesses in Spain, run and reported in English

Your customers here search in two languages. Most websites in Spain only answer one of them, which is why a competitor with a worse business keeps turning up above you. We fix the site, build the pages that answer what people actually type, and put a six-month target in writing.

No commitment. If your site cannot rank for anything worth having, we will say so.

«As a professional voice-over artist, I needed a website that inspired confidence and helped me win clients. Santiago did an excellent job on the web design, the SEO and the GEO optimisation, improving my visibility both on Google and on the new AI-based search tools. Within the first few months I started noticing more qualified visits, more quote requests and a better presence online.»

«I recently had the chance to work with this marketing agency and it exceeded all my expectations. They advised me on which services my business actually needed: SEO, sorting out all the problems with my online shop, and analytics tools.»

The bilingual gap nobody is covering

Half your market searches in English and most sites here only answer in Spanish. That is not a small oversight. It is a whole stream of ready-to-buy searches going to somebody else every month, and it compounds, because the site that has been ranking longest keeps ranking.

Round numbers to show the shape of it. Not a client of ours.
Monthly searches for what you sell, in English
600
Clicks taken by the top three results
55%
Visits a month being shared out without you
330
Over a year
3,960 visits

Buying those same visits through Google Ads at a euro a click would be nearly four thousand euros a year. Every year.

What we find, almost every time, on a site that is not being looked after:

  • Half your market types in English and finds nobody

A resident or a visitor in Costa Adeje searches “dentist Los Cristianos English speaking” or “car hire Tenerife south”. If your site only exists in Spanish, Google has nothing of yours to show for those words. The searches happen anyway; they just go to somebody else.

  • Or you have an English site that Google treats as a copy

A lot of bilingual sites are built with the translation on the same URL, or with no hreflang tags, or with the English version blocked from indexing entirely. The pages exist, they are just invisible. We check that first because it is usually the fastest win on the whole site.

  • Translated pages with Spanish keywords inside them

A page translated word for word carries the Spanish search term across, not the English one. “Reformas” is not “refurbishment” to a British customer — they search “building work” or “renovations”. The page has to be written for the English search, not translated from the Spanish one.

  • Your Google Business Profile is in one language

For a local business that profile brings more enquiries than the website. Categories, services, description, photos and replies to reviews all matter, and most profiles we inherit have not been touched since somebody created them.

Three things that hold people back, and should not

  1. “SEO is for big companies with big budgets.”

The opposite, actually. SEO is one of the few places a small business can beat a large one, because you win by being more specific and quicker to move, not by spending more. A local firm that covers ten exact searches properly will outrank a chain that covers them vaguely.

  2. “It takes a year and I need customers now.”

Some of it does. Some of it does not. A Google Business Profile that has never been filled in can move in weeks, and so can pages for searches nobody local is covering. If you genuinely need enquiries this month, that is Google Ads, and we will tell you so instead of taking a retainer and asking you to wait.

  3. “My competitors all rank because they have been here longer.”

Being older helps, but it is not the reason. The reason is usually that nobody in your trade here has done the boring parts: a page per service, a filled-in profile, a site that loads on a phone. That is a gap you can close in months, not years.

What we actually do

In the order we do it, which is the order that brings enquiries soonest rather than the order that looks most impressive on a proposal.

  1. Measurement, before anything else

Search Console, Analytics 4 and conversion tracking on forms, calls and WhatsApp, with cookie consent set up the way it has to be here. Without this, in six months nobody can prove whether the work paid — including us.

  2. The technical clear-out

Speed on a mobile on 4G, indexing, hreflang between your language versions, the mess of duplicate URLs that most WordPress sites accumulate, and whatever is quietly stopping Google from reading the site properly.

  3. A page for each thing you sell, in each language

One page per service and per area, written around what people type. Not a blog. Blogs come later, and only where there is something people genuinely search for.

  4. Local visibility

Google Business Profile, the local directories that actually matter in Spain, and consistent details everywhere — name, address, phone. Google cross-checks them, and inconsistency is a real reason local businesses sit below their competitors.

  5. Links, slowly and honestly

Press, local associations, suppliers, partners. No bought networks: they work for a while and then cost you the rankings you paid for, plus the ones you already had.

What you get every month

Not a list of deliverables nobody reads. The four things that decide whether this works.

  • The work itself, done by a specialist

Technical fixes, pages written in English and Spanish, the Business Profile kept current, and link work. Done by the person who knows how, not handed to a junior with a checklist.

  • One page of reporting you can read in five minutes

What we did, what moved, what came in, and what is next. In English. If a month was bad, it says so and explains why.

  • A call whenever you want one

Leave a number and you get a person the same working day. No account manager relaying your question to somebody else.

  • Every account in your name

Search Console, Analytics, the Business Profile, the site. Yours. If you leave, you keep the history and nothing breaks.

What it costs depends on how many services need ranking, how many languages, and the state of your site. You get the number in writing after the free review, with no lock-in.

The target we put in writing, and why it is six months

After the review we agree a target with you, in writing: a number of measured enquiries at six months. If we do not reach it, we carry on working without charging for the management until we do. At ninety days there is a checkpoint with the data in front of you — if it is not heading the right way, you see it when we do and you decide whether to carry on, with no penalty.

Three conditions, and all three are on your side:

  • Tracking goes in from day one, so we are both looking at the same number.
  • We can publish the changes and the content on the dates we agree.
  • Somebody at your end answers the enquiries that come in.

Six months because that is how long SEO takes, not because we want six months of invoices. At ninety days the only thing that really moves is the pages that were already close to the first page — promising you new enquiries by then would be selling you exactly what we criticise other agencies for. If you need results sooner, that is Google Ads, and we will say so in the review.

Senior specialists, one strategy

Efecto Newton brings together senior specialists in SEO, paid advertising, analytics, web design, creative and video production. Each area is handled by someone who has done it for years, but every decision answers to the same strategy: bring in opportunities, turn them into enquiries, and measure which ones are actually making you money.

Your project does not get passed from one isolated department to the next, and it does not rest on one person trying to do the lot. The specialists share the same goals, the same numbers and the same priorities, so your rankings, your website, your campaigns and your reporting all pull in one direction.

Between them, the team has worked on projects for brands and institutions including the Cabildo de Tenerife (the island government), Danone, Diario Marca, Minor Hotels, Hays, Vans and Milanuncios.

Whether this is for you

It works well if

  • You already have customers and want more of the same, rather than testing whether the business works.
  • People search for what you sell — a service, a treatment, a product, a place.
  • You sell to both English and Spanish speakers, or you want to start.
  • Somebody at your end can answer enquiries within a day.
  • You can give it six months before judging it.

It does not, if

  • You need customers this month and nothing else. Start with Google Ads; we will tell you that on the first call.
  • Nobody is searching for what you do yet, because the category is too new.
  • You want to keep the website exactly as it is and change nothing.
  • You are looking for the cheapest supplier. We will not be it, and you will not enjoy the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Should my website be in English, Spanish or both?

Both, on separate URLs, if you sell to both markets — and that is most businesses in the south of Tenerife. One language per page, proper hreflang tags between them, and the English written for English searches rather than translated. If your customers are overwhelmingly one or the other, we will tell you to do one properly instead of two badly.

How long before I see anything?

First movement in Google at two to three months, something worth calling a result at six. Local search can be quicker — a Business Profile that has never been optimised sometimes moves in weeks. Anything faster than that is either paid ads or somebody telling you what you want to hear.

Will you rewrite my website?

The pages that need to rank, yes, and we write them in English ourselves. We are not going to hand you a keyword list and ask you to do it, and we are not going to run your Spanish through a translator and call it an English site.

What if my site is on Wix or Squarespace?

We can work with it, with limits we will be upfront about. Some things — server-level speed, proper hreflang, certain redirect rules — are simply not available on some platforms. If the platform is the ceiling, we will say so and quote for moving, rather than charge you monthly to push against it. For what it is worth, one of the case studies on this site is a Wix site that went from nothing to 735 clicks in a year.

Do you guarantee position one?

No, and nobody honest does: Google does not sell positions and does not take instructions. What we commit to in writing is measured enquiries at six months, because that is the thing that pays your wages. Position one for a phrase nobody searches is worth nothing.

Can you do SEO if my business is not in Spain?

Yes. We work across Spain and with UK businesses selling into Spain. If you are only targeting the UK market, we will be honest that a Manchester agency with years of UK links is probably a better bet than us, and we will say that on the first call rather than take the work.
